Yes. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is worth it, even on your first Disney World trip. It feels truly magical, it's less crowded, the weather is better, and the parade is absolutely unique. There's nothing like it.
I don't hand out that yes easily. After our Halloween party, I wrote that the Halloween party IS NOT a must-do, especially if budget is a factor. Christmas is different. Here's what the party is, what our night looked like, and how to plan yours.
What's Inside This Article

What Is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party?
It's a separate-ticket evening event at Magic Kingdom. On party nights, Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 p.m. The party runs from 7 p.m. to midnight.
Your party ticket gets you into the park from 4 p.m., so you get a few hours in the park before the party starts. You don't need a separate park ticket to walk in at 4.
The 2026 basics:
- Dates: select nights from November 8 to December 22
- Price: $189 to $229 per person plus tax, depending on the night. Kids ages 3 to 9 save $10
- Included: the parade, the fireworks, snow on Main Street, free cookies and drinks, holiday versions of a few rides, character meets, a stage show and dance parties
- Not included: dining reservations and the fireworks dessert parties, which are priced separately
Tickets are limited and can sell out. Check open nights on Disney's party page.

Is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Worth It?
For us, yes. And I say that as someone who's on the fence about the Halloween party.
Our Halloween night was hot, more crowded than we expected, and it went by fast. Our Christmas night was the opposite. It felt noticeably less crowded and more magical. December also gave us “cold” weather.
The bigger reason is simple: all the parks were better at night on this trip. The party gives you five extra hours of Magic Kingdom after dark, dressed for Christmas.
Is it cheap? No. Holiday season is my favorite season at Disney World, and also the priciest. But if you're choosing one Disney party, we'd lean toward Christmas.
What Happens at the Party (and What We Did)
The parade
Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is what makes this party one of a kind. Toy soldiers, dancers, floats, and Santa Claus at the end. We watched it after the fireworks, as the last thing we did before heading home.

Snow on Main Street
Yes, it “snows” on Main Street on party nights.
Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks
We watched from Main Street at 10 p.m., with the castle lit up for Christmas. It's a party-only fireworks show.
Cookies and drinks
Cookies and hot and cold drinks are free at stops around the park. My husband and my son turned it into a cookie hunt. Our winner: chocolate chip.
Holiday ride overlays
A few rides get a Christmas makeover for the party: Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, Jingle Cruise and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. We did the teacups in their Christmas lights and Space Mountain with its holiday overlay. Classic rides stay open too. We fit in Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON.

Characters, shows and dance parties
There are holiday character meets, Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration stage show at the castle, Santa's Christmas Carnival in Storybook Circus, and dance parties around the park. We built our night around rides, cookies, the fireworks and the parade instead.
Our Christmas Party Night, Hour by Hour
We went on a Friday in mid-December 2025: me, my husband and my son. It was also my husband's birthday. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and took the boat to Magic Kingdom.
| Time | What we did |
|---|---|
| 8:30 a.m. | Boat to Magic Kingdom for a birthday morning: Christmas tree photos, PeopleMover, Main Street |
| 11:00 a.m. | Boat back to the hotel |
| 12:30 p.m. | Birthday lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe |
| 2:00 p.m. | Slow afternoon by the lake at Geyser Point |
| 5:00 p.m. | Boat back to Magic Kingdom |
| 5:20 p.m. | Walked in, before the party officially started |
| 5:50 p.m. | Cookie hunt for my husband and my son, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for me |
| 6:40 p.m. | Mad Tea Party in its Christmas lights |
| 7:10 p.m. | Space Mountain with the holiday overlay |
| 8:30 p.m. | TRON |
| 10:00 p.m. | Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks from Main Street |
| After | The parade, then home |

How to Plan a Christmas Party Day at Magic Kingdom
Use the morning, then rest. That's The Midday Reset: open, push, retreat, return. We did Magic Kingdom in the morning, went back to the hotel at 11, and came back at 5 with energy left for the fireworks and the parade.
Personal Tip: On party days, the park closes early to day guests. I've personally seen my lowest-ever crowds on a party day. If you're leaving before 6 p.m. anyway, it's a smart pick.
Arrive right at the door. Disney transportation gets you there without the long walk from parking. If you drive, go super early or super late.
Get there before 7. Party guests can walk in from 4 p.m. We were in at 5:20 and had rides and cookies going before the party officially started.
Treat the party as a bonus. The party complements your regular Magic Kingdom day. It doesn't replace it. Start with my Magic Kingdom one-day plan for that day.

When to Go: Best Christmas Party Dates for First-Timers
Party nights run from November 8 to December 22, so the party never lands on Christmas week. That's good news, because the week between Christmas and New Year's is the busiest and most expensive stretch of the year.
- Early November is lovely: cooler weather, lighter crowds, and Christmas decorations going up.
- Thanksgiving week is one of the most crowded weeks of the year. The late-November party nights (24, 25, 27 and 29) fall around it.
- Early December is manageable and often magical. We went on December 12.
Book the party at the same time as your other add-ons. In my 5-Step Planning Process, that's step 4, 60 Days Out. These tickets sell out.
Quick Tips for Your First Christmas Party
- Take your own Christmas tree photo. When we asked a stranger, they cut off the tree topper and left a big shadow on the picture.
- Dress up and take the photos. This trip I had the cutest outfits and ears, and we made a big deal of taking as many photos as possible.
- Check the weather. The parade, fireworks and stage show can be canceled for weather.
- Want party merchandise? You need your party wristband to buy it, and it sells while supplies last.
- Plan your spend. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge, one of the most expensive hotels at Christmas, so it was one of our shortest trips ever. Party tickets and a holiday hotel add up fast, so plan both into your Mickey Money budget. My budget-friendly Disney World trip shows where to trim.
