Pandora at Animal Kingdom is worth it. Flight of Passage is the famous part, but our family photos there are some of our favorite memories.

Most people head straight to Flight of Passage and rush past the rest of the land. This guide covers both rides, what to eat and what to skip. It also covers the best time to go and the quiet spots most people walk right past.

What’s Inside This Post

What Is Pandora – The World of Avatar?

Pandora – The World of Avatar is a land inside Disney's Animal Kingdom, based on James Cameron's film Avatar. It opened on May 27, 2017. Cameron and producer Jon Landau worked with Walt Disney Imagineering starting with the early renderings and models. Shortly after it opened, Time magazine named it one of the World's Greatest Places.

The land is small: two rides, one quick-service restaurant, a drink stand and two shops. But it's packed with detail. Flight of Passage is unlike any other ride, because it's a mounted flight simulator. We also love the rice bowls at Satu'li Canteen.

Personal Tip: It's hard to truly appreciate the details if you've never watched the Avatar movie. I recommend at least reading about it before you go. Then look for the contrast between the natural landscape and the military installations.

How to Get to Pandora

Pandora sits off Discovery Island, the park's hub with the Tree of Life. From the park entrance, walk through the Oasis to Discovery Island, then cross the bridge into Pandora. That's the main way in.

There's a second way in that most first-timers miss: the walkway between Pandora and Africa. It's the key to using The Loop Rule here. At Animal Kingdom, the loop runs Pandora → Africa → Asia → Discovery Island. Start in Pandora at Early Entry, then take the walkway to Africa instead of doubling back through the hub. My Animal Kingdom one-day itinerary walks through the full loop.

Inside the land, Pongu Pongu sits at the corner of Windtraders, the main gift shop. Colors of Mo'ara is a small kiosk on the east side of the valley.

Personal Tip: The walkway from Pandora to Africa is how I got into the land in July 2025. It's also how I go from Pandora to Africa after rope-dropping Flight of Passage, when the Safari is next. It's much quieter than Discovery Island and saves a lot of time going from land to land.

Pandora Rides and Attractions

Avatar Flight of Passage

On Avatar Flight of Passage, you climb onto a mountain banshee for a 3D flight over Pandora. In the story, flying a banshee is an important rite of passage for Na'vi hunters. You link to your own avatar, and the seat moves with every bank and dive.

The queue is half the experience. You walk through a glowing cave, a research lab and past a full-size avatar floating in a tank.

Height: 44 in (112 cm) · Lightning Lane: Single Pass, not part of Multi Pass · Standby: usually 60–90+ minutes most of the day

I would not skip Flight of Passage on a first visit. But it's not something we do every time. Our longest wait was 75 minutes, in June 2026. That day we went to the park just for Flight of Passage and to eat at Nomad Lounge. So we waited. New to Lightning Lane? The Lightning Lane Playbook explains Single Pass and Multi Pass.

Personal Tip: My favorite moment on Flight of Passage is the cavern with the glowing things.

Na'vi River Journey

Na'vi River Journey is a slow boat ride into a glowing, bioluminescent rainforest. You float through caves in search of the Shaman of Songs. It's an easy pick for little kids or anyone who gets motion sick.

Height: any height · Lightning Lane: Multi Pass

Fair warning: it makes zero sense if you don't watch Avatar. 🙂 It's a slow boat ride with a very long queue, mostly outdoors.

Personal Tip: Na'vi River Journey can be skipped if you're really pressed for time or have no Lightning Lanes.

Where to Eat in Pandora

Satu'li Canteen

Satu'li Canteen is the best quick-service in Animal Kingdom, and it's not close. It's set in a Quonset hut, a former RDA mess hall now covered in Na'vi art. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with build-your-own bowls and vegetarian options.

Mobile order is available, and it helps at peak meal times. Disney lists it in its lowest price range, $14.99 and under per adult. Check current prices in the My Disney Experience app. It was on the plan for our budget-friendly Animal Kingdom trip, too.

Personal Tip: I order the Chimichurri Beef and Chopped Wood-grilled Chicken bowl, modified for our allergies. For coffee, get the Specialty Ube Cold Brew. We used to get the cold brew flight, but it looks like they don't have it anymore.

Pongu Pongu

Pongu Pongu is a quick-service drink stand. Its name means “Party Party” in Na'vi. It serves colorful slushies and limeades, a couple of snacks, beer and cocktails. The non-alcoholic specialty drinks run about $7 to $10. Check the app for current prices.

Personal Tip: My order is the Night Blossom: layers of apple and desert pear limeade, topped with boba balls.

What to Do in Pandora Beyond the Rides

The Valley of Mo'ara and the drum circle

The Valley of Mo'ara is the land itself, a walkthrough under the floating mountains. Plants glow at night, and Na'vi totems are tucked all around. Kids can earn Wilderness Explorers badges. You may also meet ACE tour guides or PCI scientists.

There's a Na'vi drum circle anyone can play. We've played it. Nothing great, but definitely an opportunity to slow down.

Personal Tip: My favorite quiet spot is the walking path to the right of the main path, across from Na'vi River Journey. It's almost always empty, because people rush to get to Flight of Passage.

Photo spots and details people miss

I always stop for the plant at the entrance that breathes the air of Pandora. PhotoPass photographers are usually by the entrance and in front of the floating rocks, but it may vary. During the holidays, the giant robot suit by Pongu Pongu gets a Christmas treatment.

Shops and shoulder banshees

Windtraders sells Na'vi items, toy banshees, science kits and ACE apparel. Its walls look like natural roots have taken over an old RDA building. Colors of Mo'ara is a small kiosk with Na'vi-inspired gifts.

The big draw at Windtraders is the interactive shoulder banshee. The mouth, head and wings move by remote, and there are glow-in-the-dark versions. Cast members hold an adoption ceremony when you pick one, and kids like it. If you can, buy at the end of the day, or store it on your stroller. They're big for kids to carry all day long.

Best Time to Visit Pandora at Animal Kingdom

Go first thing in the morning. Pandora is the best land at Animal Kingdom for Early Theme Park Entry. That's the extra half hour guests of Disney Resort hotels and some select hotels get before opening. On a typical day, that's 7:30 a.m., with the park open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check the hours for your date in the My Disney Experience app.

Rope drop Flight of Passage. Then stick around for breakfast at Satu'li Canteen, or take the walkway to Africa for the Safari. The land gets crowded later in the day.

Night is a bonus, not the plan. The park closes too early most days to see Pandora after dark. If it's open late on your date, the glowing plants are worth a second look.

Personal Tip: We've been at night once, during our 2023 visit, just by chance, and it was magical. But I would start in Pandora in the morning, as it gets crowded later in the day.

Pandora Essentials: Restrooms and More

  • Restrooms: before the Colors of Mo'ara stand, and to the left of Satu'li Canteen.
  • Rider Switch on Flight of Passage: we all go together and switch after the pre-shows. Ask the cast member at the entrance how it works that day. Details are on Disney's Rider Switch page.
  • Mobile order: available at Satu'li Canteen in the My Disney Experience app.
  • Hours and wait times: check the My Disney Experience app on the day. Animal Kingdom often closes at 6 p.m.

Pro Tip: The restraints on Flight of Passage are rigid and don't fit every body type. Ask a cast member about the test seat outside the attraction before you get in line.
