Most people just call it Star Wars Land. Its real name is Galaxy's Edge, and this guide has tips for every kind of visitor — the two-hour family who just wants to ride and go, the die-hard fan chasing every detail, and everyone in between. Most people ride the two attractions, snap a photo with the Falcon, and leave having missed most of what makes this land worth an afternoon.
Batuu rewards people who study the land a little — that's what this guide is for. A few minutes of reading before you go, and you'll know what to look for once you're there. If you're a real Star Wars fan, there are a few secrets in here too.

What Is Galaxy's Edge?
Galaxy's Edge isn't a themed land bolted onto Hollywood Studios — it's a planet. You're standing on Batuu, in a smuggler's outpost called Black Spire Outpost, and Disney built the whole place so you'd forget you're in a theme park at all: cast members stay in character, the Coke bottles are shaped like droid orbs, and there's no obvious “front” to the land the way there is at Magic Kingdom's Main Street.
Personal Tip: the first time I walked in, I was a little lost and honestly overwhelmed. The streets all look the same, and it's so immersive that it's hard to find the bathrooms. That lost feeling is normal — it's the design working on you, not a sign you're doing it wrong.
The Rides: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Two attractions anchor Galaxy's Edge, and they're built for very different kinds of fun.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the biggest, most impressive attraction Disney has ever built. You're recruited by the Resistance, captured by the First Order, and the “queue” turns into movie scenes — a transport ship, a hangar full of stormtroopers, and a finale that blends four ride systems into one. Minimum height 40″/102cm. It's the longest line in the park all day, breaks down more than most rides, and sells as Lightning Lane Single Pass, not Multi Pass. If it goes down while you're in line, don't write off the day — come back later.
There's a single rider line, but skip it your first time — it cuts most of the pre-shows, including the Rey and BB-8 briefing. Save it for a repeat visit.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run puts your group in the actual cockpit — six seats, two pilots, two gunners, two engineers — and the mission depends on how you play it. Minimum height 38″/97cm. Politely fight for a pilot seat; they're the most fun.
Personal Tip: Smugglers Run is skippable, in my opinion, if the standby line is long. We ride it with Lightning Lane even as annual passholders, because the wait can get long for a ride that might be frustrating for young kids (and even adults). The one exception was the new Mandalorian and Grogu mission — that's the only time we've stood in the standby line for this ride, because we're big Star Wars people.
Pro Tip — how to unlock Grogu Mode: ask for one of the two middle “gunner” seats. Once buckled in, both gunners press and hold the white button closest to the back of the cockpit, then, still holding it, press the round activation button. Cockpit lights turn green if it worked, and Grogu narrates the whole ride instead of the usual brief cameo.

Beyond the Rides: What Else to Do in Batuu
This is the section that actually answers “is it fun if I'm not a Star Wars fan.” It is — because most of what makes Batuu worth your time isn't the rides at all.
Droid Depot
Build your own remote-control droid — R2-D2 style or BB-8 style — for $99.99 plus tax as of this writing. Once built, it reacts to spots in the land: it might chirp near the Resistance camp or go quiet around the First Order. You can't drive it by remote inside the park — you carry it, and it reacts as you walk. Check Disney's official page for current pricing.
Savi's Workshop
The lightsaber-building experience, and the priciest single thing in Batuu at $274.99 plus tax per builder as of this writing. A “Gatherer” walks you through picking a hilt style and crystal color, then you assemble it by hand. Reservations open 60 days out. Character Meets
Rey, Kylo Ren, the Mandalorian and Grogu, and stormtrooper patrols roam Batuu in character, no formal line — they find you. Chewbacca is the exception: he has a set meet-and-greet spot at the back of the Millennium Falcon.
First Order Cargo & Resistance Supply: Pick a Side
Two shops let you gear up for whichever side you're rooting for. First Order Cargo, near Oga's Cantina, sells First Order gear. Resistance Supply, by the Resistance camp, has Resistance apparel and mission gear. Neither is essential, but they're a fun five minutes.
Wandering Droids
Keep an eye on the ground — Imagineers rolled a real R2-D2 through wet concrete during construction, so authentic droid tracks are worked into the pavement if you know where to look.
Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters
A free scavenger hunt in the Play Disney Parks app. Use your MagicBand+ to track down virtual bounties around Black Spire Outpost — good for restless kids during a slow afternoon.
Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities
Part shop, part museum, packed with holocrons, kyber crystals, and Legacy Lightsabers — pre-built replicas of sabers belonging to characters like Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, cheaper than building your own at Savi's. Say hello to Dok on your way in; don't expect “Bright Suns” back.
Shops
Black Spire Outfitters covers general Batuu apparel, the Creature Stall sells plush critters, and the Toydarian Toymaker has handcrafted-style toys. No reservation needed for any of these.
Magic Shots
Disney PhotoPass photographers offer special photo effects around the land — a dramatic zoom near First Order Cargo is a popular one. Ask what's available that day; it changes.
Personal Tip: it's hard to appreciate all of this while you're also finding your way around. We didn't discover some of these hidden gems until our fourth visit, and only after following Disney creators online who pointed them out. That's why this list exists.
Where to Eat in Galaxy's Edge
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo — the main quick service, with surprisingly polished plates and good allergen labeling in the app.
Ronto Roasters — the Ronto Wrap (grilled sausage, roasted pork, slaw, pita) is, for my money, the best sandwich in the park.
Milk Stand — Blue Milk and Green Milk, served frozen. Order one, split it, take the photo. Disneyland added a Pink Milk in early 2026, but it's exclusive to that coast — Walt Disney World is still Blue and Green only, though adults can add rum or tequila to either.
Oga's Cantina — the spaceport bar, with a droid DJ and drinks like the Bloody Rancor and Fuzzy Tauntaun. Reservations open 60 days out in the app, but same-day availability opens up sometimes too.
Kat Saka's Kettle — the Outpost Popcorn Mix, sweet and savory, and the Cold Brew Black Caf (topped with cocoa puffs) — honestly the best coffee in the galaxy. Mobile order works here.
Kids don't always love the food here as much as adults do — the flavors lean savory and adventurous. My move: mobile order at Woody's Lunch Box in Toy Story Land for the kids, grab a seat, and let the adults eat at the wonderfully themed Docking Bay 7.
Related Activities Outside Galaxy's Edge
A few Star Wars experiences worth knowing about, even though they're technically outside the land itself:
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue — a 3D motion-simulator flight through the Star Wars galaxy, in Echo Lake. Minimum height 40″/102cm, single rider line available, with 60+ possible scene combinations. Darth Vader also meets guests nearby — worth the detour even if you skip the ride.
Tatooine Traders — the gift shop at the exit of Star Tours, themed to Mos Espa from The Phantom Menace. It has its own build-your-own lightsaber and droid options — a lower-key, often shorter-wait alternative if Savi's and Droid Depot are booked up.
Star Wars Galactic Outpost — the Star Wars shop at Disney Springs, near Super Hero Headquarters. Good for Batuu merchandise without the Galaxy's Edge crowds.
My Tips for a First Visit (2–3 Hours)
- Ride Rise of the Resistance — full standby or Single Pass, not single rider (you'll miss the pre-shows)
- Stroll the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace with a Cocoa Puff cold brew from Kat Saka's Kettle
- Pop into Droid Depot, even just to browse
- Stop at Oga's Cantina for a Fuzzy Tauntaun — it does more for “feeling” Batuu than almost anything else in the land
- No need to build anything or book ahead — two to three hours is enough for a real feel for the place

My Tips for the Full Star Wars Experience (4+ Hours)
If your group has a real fan in it, budget half a day.
- Ride both Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — try to unlock Grogu Mode on the Falcon (see above for how)
- Build a droid at Droid Depot or a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop — both take real time, and both are souvenirs nobody forgets
- Visit Dok-Ondar's and actually read the item descriptions instead of walking past them
- Do the Bounty Hunters scavenger hunt if you've got kids along
- See Batuu after dark — the Millennium Falcon and Black Spire Outpost lit up in a different mood
- Track down a PhotoPass photographer for the Magic Shots — spots are usually on the way to Toy Story Land and in front of the First Order ship

May the 4th (“May the Fourth be with you”) isn't a separately ticketed event — it's included with regular admission and runs as a season, with special food, drinks, and merchandise typically available from around May 1 through the end of the month. Expect exclusive items at Oga's Cantina, Docking Bay 7, and the Milk Stand, plus a virtual queue for merchandise drops.
Personal Tip: treat May the 4th like the busiest day of the year here, because it basically is. Annual Passholder reservations for Hollywood Studios have sold out on May 4th before. Book your Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance and Smugglers Run the moment your window opens, and expect cosplay, crowds, and a genuinely fun, convention-like energy.
