The best one-day Hollywood Studios plan moves through Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge in the morning, the park's theater shows during the hottest midday hours, and Sunset Boulevard in the evening before Fantasmic! closes the night. That works whether your group rides every coaster in the park or skips them all for the shows and the Star Wars magic of Batuu.
Hollywood Studios packs more into less space than any other Disney World park — you can walk the whole thing end to end in twenty minutes. That's exactly why a plan matters here more than anywhere else: the real challenge isn't finding things to do, it's not wasting your day walking back and forth between them.

Is Hollywood Studios a Half-Day or Full-Day Park?
Full day, every time. If you have older kids or adults who want the thrill rides and a proper stop at Oga's Cantina, this is honestly closer to a two-day park. I've done it in half a day a few times, and I don't recommend it for a first visit — you'll spend more energy figuring out what to skip than you would just committing to the full day.
Hollywood Studios is my second-favorite park at Disney World (Animal Kingdom still has my heart), but it's the one that turned me into a passholder. Between Galaxy's Edge and Fantasmic!, it earns a park-open-to-park-close day.
The Big Four Headliners — Ride These in the Right Order
If your group is chasing thrills, four rides define the Hollywood Studios day: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Everything else — the shows, the meet-and-greets, Galaxy's Edge exploring — fits in around these four. (If height requirements or thrill level rule any of these out for your group, skip ahead to the hour-by-hour plan below — the shows and Galaxy's Edge carry a full day on their own.) I've rebuilt this exact order on more than one Hollywood Studios day, and it's the version that's gotten my family on all four without a single afternoon meltdown.
- Rise of the Resistance — the biggest, most impressive ride Disney has ever built. Minimum height 40″/102cm. It's the longest line in the park all day, and it's sold as Lightning Lane Single Pass, not Multi Pass.
- Slinky Dog Dash — the family coaster, exciting for adults, gentle enough to be a kid's first “real” coaster. Minimum height 38″/97cm. You'll wait far longer for this ride than any other at Disney World — it only lasts five minutes, but the line is regularly 90.
- Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets — reopened May 26, 2026, with the same beloved 0-to-57-mph launch and loops in the dark, now with a new Muppets storyline and preshow. Minimum height 48″/122cm — the tallest requirement in the park.
- Tower of Terror — the best-themed attraction at Disney World, from the dusty hotel lobby to the drop itself. Minimum height 40″/102cm.
Personal Tip: don't trust the height limit as a readiness test. My son cleared it easily and was still terrified after riding — the drop is a real drop, not a themed surprise, and no height requirement can tell you how a specific kid will handle that.
How Does Lightning Lane Work at Hollywood Studios?
Hollywood Studios sells Lightning Lane Multi Pass (roughly $24–37 per person, per day) for most attractions, and a separate Lightning Lane Single Pass for Rise of the Resistance only. Read the full guide on Lightning Lanes here.
Multi Pass attractions are split into two tiers, and the booking rule is different for each. You can book just 1 Tier 1 attraction in advance, but 2 from Tier 2 — so knowing the split matters before you start booking.

Here's how I book mine, after testing a lot of different approaches — including buying Lightning Lane at 1pm and still riding several attractions:
- Get at least 2 of your 3 Multi Pass return times locked in for before 1pm, if you can. For months now, the big rides haven't had return times available before 6pm or later, even when I book at 7am, seven days out. More people have figured this out than you'd think — don't be the family that still hasn't ridden a single Lightning Lane by noon.
- Set one of your Lightning Lanes within the first hour of park open. Redeeming that reservation early unlocks a new pick to select — so getting it out of the way first thing gives you first choice of what's left, all day long.
- Finish a land before you move to the next one. Don't book Smugglers Run for 10–11am and Tower of Terror for 11am–noon — you'll spend your morning walking instead of riding.
Here's what I actually book, broken out by window, based on what's realistically available these days:
Park open (9am):
- 1st choice: Toy Story Mania!
- 2nd choice: Alien Swirling Saucers
- Easy to get: Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
10am–1pm:
- 1st choice: Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
- 2nd choice: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Easy to get: any of the shows (Frozen Sing-Along, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage)
After 1pm:
- One ride you really want — Tower of Terror (handy if you're timing it near Fantasmic!), Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, or Slinky Dog Dash
Personal Tip: Match your Lightning Lane times to the land you'll actually be standing in. It feels stressful to not have every slot locked in advance, but if you start early, you'll get chances to book more rides as the day goes on. When in doubt, a stand-by line is always there as a backup.
My crowd-reading trick: check the Lightning Lane Multi Pass price for the day you're planning. Cheap price, quiet day. Expensive price, packed day — and on a packed day without a Lightning Lane plan, you're choosing which of the big four you're willing to skip.
Hollywood Studios One-Day Itinerary, Hour by Hour
My perfect Hollywood Studios day spends roughly two hours in each land, in this order: Toy Story Land, Galaxy's Edge, a midday show break, an optional hotel break, Sunset Boulevard for the coasters, dinner, and Fantasmic! to close. If your group has small kids who'd rather meet characters than ride Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster, swap in extra time at Toy Story Land instead — nobody's day is ruined by more snacks or a longer dinner.
Morning: Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge
If you're on-site at a Disney Resort hotel, use every minute of your 30-minute Early Entry window. Toy Story Land is the hottest land in the entire park — you want it before 11am, not after.
- 8:00am — Arrive at the turnstiles. Aim to be through security and at the gates before Early Entry starts.
- 8:15am — Head straight to Slinky Dog Dash. This coaster pulls the longest line of the day, and Early Entry is your best shot at a short one. If a cast member tells you it's down for Early Entry, switch to Toy Story Mania! first and swing back the moment Slinky reopens. If you're not a resort guest, head to Toy Story Mania! or straight to Tower of Terror on Sunset Boulevard while everyone else is stuck in Toy Story Land.
- 9:00am — Toy Story Mania! or Alien Swirling Saucers, or use your first Lightning Lane here if it's open.
- 10:00am — Walk into Galaxy's Edge. Explore the market, peek into the Droid Depot, and ride the newly refreshed Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — fight politely for the pilot seats, they're the most fun.
Pro Tip — how to unlock Grogu Mode: the ride has a secret mode worth chasing. Instead of the pilot seats, ask the cast member at the entrance for the two middle “gunner” seats (their call, so ask nicely). Once you're buckled in, both gunners need to press and hold the white square button closest to the back of the cockpit before anyone else touches a button, then, still holding it, press the round activation button — if it worked, the cockpit lights turn green. Pull it off and Grogu narrates the whole ride instead of the usual brief cameo.
- 10:30am — Ronto Roasters for the Ronto Wrap (grilled sausage, roasted pork, and slaw in pita), for my money the best sandwich in the park.
- 11:00am — Rise of the Resistance. Use your Single Pass or brave the standby line. It's worth every minute.
Midday: Theater Escapes While the Sun Peaks
From 11am to 4pm, the Florida sun and the crowds peak together. Use this window for indoor shows and dark rides instead of standing in an outdoor coaster line.
- 12:00pm — Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, inside the Chinese Theatre. No height requirement — the rare headliner your whole family can ride together.
- 12:45pm — For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. Genuinely funny even for the “too old for Frozen” crowd in your group, and half an hour of air conditioning.
- 1:30pm — Lunch. Docking Bay 7 in Batuu, or the Fantasmic! dining package if you booked a table-service meal.
- 1:45pm — Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Arrive 15–20 minutes early for real stadium seating, and raise your hand if they ask for volunteers.
Afternoon: Recharge, Then the Coasters
Mid-afternoon is peak meltdown territory for kids and adults alike. If your hotel is on the Skyliner, a 3–6pm break — shower, TV, a nap — is the trick that gets our family from rope drop to close without anyone falling apart.
If you'd rather stay in the park:
- 2:30pm — Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage or the high-energy Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.
- 4:30pm — Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, right on Sunset Boulevard.
- 5:00pm — Re-rides. Toy Story Mania! and Slinky Dog Dash lines drop noticeably after 4pm — a good window to snag a same-day Lightning Lane or re-ride a favorite.
Evening: Sunset Boulevard and Fantasmic!
As the sun drops, wait times fall and the park's lighting completely changes the mood.
- 6:00pm — Walk back through Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge at night. Batuu after dark is worth seeing even if you already rode everything.
- 6:15pm — Dinner or drinks. Oga's Cantina (reservations open in the app, but same-day booking is often possible too) or Docking Bay 7.
- 7:30pm — Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster, if you saved either for the evening.
- 8:30pm — Claim your seats for Fantasmic! at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. On single-showtime nights, arrive 30–45 minutes early. On two-show nights, the first show has shorter lines beforehand and the second show usually has no wait at all.
- 9:00pm — Fantasmic! In my opinion, this is the single best attraction at Disney World — water, fire, projections, boats, and Mickey's dream all at once. You're sitting down for the finale, which after a park-open-to-close day is its own kind of magic.

Where to Eat at Hollywood Studios
We personally enjoy the quick service restaurants like Docking Bay 7 and Oga's. 50's Prime Time Café is the one we've actually eaten at, and it earns its reservation. Beyond the quick-service spots mentioned below, here's what's worth booking ahead at Hollywood Studios (60 days out for resort guests):
- Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater — you eat inside a “convertible car” watching 1950s sci-fi trailers. The food isn't the park's best, but the setting makes it worth it — order the milkshake.
- 50's Prime Time Café — servers stay in character as your strict-but-loving “family.” Elbows off the table, clean your plate before dessert. Real comfort food, and the fried chicken is the right call.
- The Hollywood Brown Derby — the park's fanciest sit-down option, with the original Cobb Salad and grapefruit cake. This is the trip's one “grown-up” dinner.
- Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano — a casual, family-friendly Italian spot on Grand Avenue, with wood-fired pizza and pasta. Less theming than the other three, but a reliable, easier-to-book option.
- Hollywood & Vine — the park's character dining spot, buffet-style, with Disney Junior characters at select meals. The pick if your group has little ones who'd rather eat with characters than watch a drive-in movie.
- Roundup Rodeo BBQ — family-style, all-you-care-to-enjoy BBQ in Toy Story Land, right at the entrance near the Woody statue. Roughly $45–49 per adult, $25–28 per child. You're shrunk to toy size again, surrounded by Andy's oversized rodeo playset — a natural lunch stop if you're already spending the morning in this land.
Quick service: Woody's Lunch Box (Toy Story Land) for the grilled cheese and totchos — one of the best breakfast stops in the park. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and Ronto Roasters (Galaxy's Edge) for the Ronto Wrap, the best sandwich in the park in my opinion. ABC Commissary and Backlot Express (near Sunset Boulevard and Echo Lake) for an easy, no-reservation lunch between rides.
My Tips for Hollywood Studios

- Toy Story Land is the sunniest land in the park with almost no shade — hit it before noon or after 4pm, not in between.
- Don't bring height-limit kids onto Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror without the readiness talk first. A dark launch with inversions and a dropping elevator aren't a “good surprise” for every kid — meeting the minimum height isn't the same as being ready.
- If a ride breaks down while you're in line, don't storm off — find a cast member. Real extended downtime is often made up for with a replacement Lightning Lane.
- Grand Avenue is under construction (it's becoming Monstropolis, a Monsters, Inc. land, in 2028). The old Animation Courtyard has already reopened as The Walt Disney Studios — a courtyard with character meet-and-greets, character handprints, and the new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! show. Its big new indoor attraction, The Magic of Disney Animation, is set to open inside the courtyard later this summer — expect character sketch drawing, portraits that come to life, and an indoor playground called Drawn to Wonderland for younger kids. It wasn't open as of this writing, so check the My Disney Experience app for its status the week of your visit.
- Check the calendar before you book a Hollywood Studios day between early November and early January. Disney Jollywood Nights, the separately ticketed holiday party, runs on 15 select nights in that window, and the regular park closes early to the general public on those dates to get ready for it — which cuts straight into the evening hours this itinerary depends on, including Fantasmic!. If your dates land on an event night, plan to wrap your day earlier or check the party's own lineup instead.

Does Hollywood Studios have fireworks?
Not traditional fireworks over a castle, but there's plenty to see after dark. Fantasmic! is the park's seated, 6,900-seat nighttime finale, blending water projections, fire, and classic Disney music. Earlier in the evening, Hollywood Boulevard also runs two shorter projection shows on the Chinese Theatre facade — Wonderful World of Animation (Disney's animated films) and Disney Movie Magic (Disney's live-action films), each about 10–12 minutes and viewable from the same spot on the Boulevard. Actual fireworks do show up at Hollywood Studios during select ticketed events, like Disney Jollywood Nights and New Year's Eve — just not as part of the regular nightly lineup.
